The steering committee consists of SOARS alumni and leading scientists and administrators from throughout UCAR and partnering organizations such as CIRES. The committee has four main functions:
To review student applications and recommend candidates to the SOARS program director
To suggest research topics, recruit scientists to volunteer as research mentors, and advise the program director on pairing of protégés and science mentors.
Monitor evaluation results and help plan necessary changes
Represent SOARS within the broader geoscience community.
The SOARS program is administered by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). Program funding is provided by: NSF, CIRES, NOAA, and UCAR/NCAR/UOP.
