Funding for conferences
A key part of science and conducting research involves presenting your work to your scientific peers. To assist you in this effort, SOARS offers financial support for you to attend up to 2 conferences a year to present your research, either as a poster or an oral presentation. We also encourage you to seek out additional sources of funding for your conference expenses, either through your university or conference travel scholarships. Funding from SOARS is not guaranteed, and is meant to supplement the sources you find on your own. SOARS will determine the allocation of conference funding for each protégé.
In order to be eligible for SOARS support to attend conferences, you must:
- Be in good standing as a SOARS protégé
- Participate in the conference as a speaker or as a presenter of a poster
- Apply for financial aid through the conference (be aware that many deadlines for financial aid come early, so plan ahead)
- Complete the SOARS Application for Conference Funding by September 1st
Travel arrangements should be made through SOARS at least one month prior to the conference to guarantee reimbursement. Protégés are responsible for submitting their abstract, registering for the conference on time, as well as making timely travel arrangements with SOARS and collecting all receipts for reimbursement.
Acknowledging SOARS on your poster and at your talk
When you design a poster or a powerpoint for research that you conducted through SOARS be sure to include the following statement in your 'Acknowledgements' section: "This work was performed under the auspices of the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science Program."
If there is space, then add this second sentence: "SOARS is managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research and is funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Science, and by the Center for Multiscale Modeling of Atmospheric Processes."
Please also use the SOARS logo (JPEG or EPS) on your poster and powerpoint presentations.
